Marksheets out today, junior college admissions set to begin
MUMBAI: Ten days after the state education board announced the SSC results online, students will finally receive their original marksheets on Monday, starting the junior college admissions.
Like last year, admission to the minority, in-house and management quotas will be done offline before the first merit list for junior colleges are announced online.
Altogether close to 1.10 lakh seats will be filled through offline admissions this year, leaving 1.54 lakh seats for online admissions. Besides, this year many colleges have added extra seats to the bifocal (vocational) subjects.
"Students can apply to colleges immediately after they get their marksheets. Colleges have until July 7 to admit students under various quotas, after which the merit lists for the online admission process will be announced," said a senior official from the office of deputy director of education. He added by 11 am on July 8, colleges will have to surrender their vacant seats for online admissions. July 7 is the last day for students to submit their online admissions forms.
Most colleges are already giving application forms and will accept the filled ones from tomorrow. Marie Fernandes, principal of St Andrew's College in Bandra said colleges usually end up announcing more than one list offline. "Many students apply to various colleges so they end up not confirming their admission immediately. Therefore, we have to announce more than one list," said Fernandes.
Students are now anxiously waiting to get hold of seats in a college of their choice. 16-year-old Rishi Kothwani is hoping to bag a seat in either KC College or Jai hind College at Churchgate. "The good thing is that since fall under the minority quota, we get the first preference to opt for the bifocal subjects. Hopefully I'll get a subject of my choice," said Kothwani.
